"Our Goal Is to Drive “The ( OVERUNIT ) MACHINE”Out of Italy And Onto The International Metal Scene" Metality.net Interviews OVERUNIT MACHINE

OVERUNIT MACHINE is an Italian industrial metal band founded in 2000, and have been going strong ever since. The band plays a cross-over blend of nu-metal with industrial influences. In 2009, they released their latest studio album "Antropophobia" through Italian record label Killer Pool Records. Which was produced by Victor Love (Dope Stars Inc.) at the Subsound Studio (Rome), and mastered by John Golden at Golden Mastering (Ventura, California).

OVERUNIT MACHINE are currently working on the follow up to 2009's "Antropophibia" with Scottish renowned producer Howie B. (U2, Bjork, Placebo) and will be releasing a demo to shop to potential labels for the release of their upcoming full length.

I got the chance to catch up with the band, and ask them about how the deal with Howie B. came together, their upcoming album, who they would like to tour with next, among many other topics.

Here's how it went:

iRoar: First of all I'd like to thank you for this opportunity; how's everything lately with Overunit Machine?

Overunit Machine: Hi, nice to meet you! We would like to thank you for your attention and for this interview. The MACHINE has a really good engine and it's running faster than we expected. Actually we've had a really big opportunity, at the beginning of september 2010 we've been in studio with the famous Scottish producer Howie B. (U2, Bjork, Portishead, Soul2Soul, Tricky). We recorded and mixed 2 new songs with his supervision. Next month we will release a promo vinyl that will be used to find a good label that can afford to engage Howee B. for the making of the entire new album. With the new album we would like to hit countries like USA, Canada, Northern Europe, and Japan.

iRoar: The band's music is a cross-over of many different genres as your Myspace page indicates; being influenced by many veteran bands, such as: Sepultura, Machine Head, (HED) p.e., and Tool, among many others. How would you describe Overunit Machine's sound?

(O | M): As a matter of fact, it is really difficult to describe our sound, it changes continuously and is always evolving. In all the reviews we had about the last album “Antropophobia”, we have been described in many different ways but no one has been able to really describe how we sound. We think this is exactly what we expected from “Antropophobia”, to create confusion and disappointment among the listeners, but never bore them. Every single song is a surprise, in every song everybody can hear different influences, the mix between all this different influences creates the Overunit Machine sound. But in the end, when you tell us that in our songs you recognize a bit of Tool, Machine Head, Fear Factory, (Hed) p.e., you make us happy, we really appreciate and respect these monsters of musicians.

iRoar: Can you tell us about the different influences each band member brings to the table in terms of song writing?

(O | M): The final result of our songwriting is the addition of each member's musical tastes. Normally the songwriting begins with a guitar riff on which we build, working all together, the rest of the song. The last step belongs to Klown, the singer, that listens to the music and develops the vocal arrangements and lyrics.

iRoar: Overunit Machine shared the stage with many international bands, such as: To Die For, Slowmotion Apocalyspe, and Cro-Mags, among many others. Who would you like to share the stage with next from the international or Italian metal scene?

(O | M): Above all Tool and Meshuggah, but playing with every renowned band could be a great experience and a big deal.

iRoar: You guys are currently working on a new record with renowned producer Howie B (Bjork, U2, Placebo), how did the deal with Howie B come about?

(O | M):
It's a simple, but weird coincidence that brought us to the deal with Howie B. One day we had an appointment with an Italian producer. After the meeting we were invited by him for dinner. When we reached the restaurant there were two people waiting at our same table. We started dinner and after a while we had been informed about who the two people really were. Afterwards, eating became really hard, due to the excitement. We couldn't believe we were having dinner with Howie B and the sound engineer of Coldplay!

iRoar: What can you tell us about the new album's material, in terms of sound, lyrical themes, and when can we expect it to be released?

(O | M): What we can anticipate about the new album that it will be soaked with esotherism and mysticism, but not in a really explicit way, you will have to read between the lines to discover it... the sound will be heavier than “Antropophobia's one”, but as usual unidentifiable... we expect to release it at the end of 2011.

iRoar: Do you guys have tour plans following the release of the album?

(O | M): As we said before, our goal is to drive “the ( OVERUNIT ) MACHINE” out of Italy,( unfortunately our country is a grave for every kind of heavy music, the only chance to survive is to bring your music out of here...) this means that surely we will fix a promotour in europe after the release of the album.

iRoar: Where can fans get the latest updates on everything about Overunit Machine?
