Could The New TOOL Album Be Out This Year?

Back in December, news started flying around the internet that a new TOOL album is in the works.

A few days ago, hopes were shot down when vocalist, Maynard James Keenan mentioned that he hasn't written a single new song, and the band's webmaster posted a blog entry on the band's site stating that one of the members was injured and that work on the album has been put on hold (it was later revealed the mystery member is drummer, Danny Carrey who cracked four ribs in the accident).

But then, Danny revived all hope, by stating that a new album will be released in 2013.

That's right folks, a new TOOL album will be released this year. When asked for a specific date, Carrey told TheRockFM:

“Sometime this year … that’s all I can say,”

“The sooner the better for us. We’re working everyday but you can never predict it, honestly. We’re really excited about it so I hope all the fans will be too.”

In another interview, Carrey talks about a 20 minute piece that the band is working on for the album, stating:

“We’re still – believe it or not! – still working on it,” the drummer says about the piece. “[Laughs] It’s like an ever-evolving thing, it’s probably going to turn into a thing that’s like, a big trilogy type of feel to it, sort of like ‘Disposition’ and ‘Intension’ and ‘Triad,’ like on the ‘Lateralus’ record or something. It will probably be over a 20-minute piece when it’s all finished, so it will be a good part of the record. We’re dealing with it in sections, but it’s coming together really well, we’re having lots of fun working on it, that’s for sure.”

There you have it, it seems like a new TOOL album could very well see the light of day before the end of 2013, and could be down the pipes sooner rather than later. The band announced an all-arena tour of Australia and New Zealand starting on April 27th. A new record would definitely work well with such a tour.
